Man having a new job and having diabetes is difficult. I just had my first episode while working and instead of grabbing something to eat real quick, I stood there and debated whether I should tell someone. All of the explaining I’d have to do and the pity that inevitably follows makes thing a little tricky. Most days I hardly think about the diabetes but every once in a while my body brings...

Thanksgiving, arguably one of the hardest days when you’re diabetic. Today I had a series of lows one could only wish for on a day dedicated to eating. Hopefully I will be able to make it through the night without much more trouble! On another note, my mom has checked our puppy into doggy daycare for Thanksgiving since we have to go out of town. I keep saying that she has taken my baby...

Quote of the Day →
In reaction to last night’s debate between the Republican Presidential hopefuls: Listening to GOP Presidential candidates talk about science is like listening to children talk about sex: They know it exists, they have strong opinions about what it might mean, but they don’t have a clue what it’s actually about. "The United States of Unemployment" →
David Wessel: The United States of Unemployment, by David Wessel: There are 13.9 million unemployed people in the U.S. – and that just counts those looking for work. That works out to 9.1% of the labor force, the widely publicized unemployed rate. But here are a few more ways to look at it. There are more unemployed people in the U.S. than there are people in the state of Illinois, the fifth...

Recent College Graduates Wait for Their Real... →
Meet the members of what might be called Generation Limbo: highly educated 20-somethings, whose careers are stuck in neutral, coping with dead-end jobs and listless prospects. And so they wait: for the economy to turn, for good jobs to materialize, for their lucky break. Some do so bitterly, frustrated that their well-mapped careers have gone astray. Others do so anxiously, wondering how they are...

20 Free Barnes & Noble Classics →
Barnes & Noble has updated a number of their B&N Classics Series books — they are now in the EPUB format rather than PDB (ereader), which means they should work on all the nook ereaders, not just the original nook. Right now, 20 of the titles are free. These are annotated classics, not just scanned editions, which usually sell for $3-$4.

Traditionally, Americans have firmly believed in two core investments: college and home ownership. Then the housing bubble popped. Is education next? Interesting thought for the day.
